a unique opportunity to support live, local chamber music

Support Nebraska Chamber Players
on Give to Lincoln Day

Give to Lincoln, now in its second year, is an effort by the Lincoln Community Foundation to encourage support for local nonprofit organizations. It's a one-day event when people can donate online (or in person) and help their chosen organization to receive a proportion of matching funds from the Foundation and its participating sponsors.

The 2013-14 season will mark Nebraska Chamber Players' 17th year. From our humble beginnings at the 7th Street Loft, to the years performing in the collaborative space at the Loft at the Mill, and now in partnership with NET Studios, we have grown into an integral part of the arts community in Lincoln and in the state of Nebraska. Our players live and work here, and we believe strongly in supporting live, local music performances.

How will we use your donation? Read further to learn about the programs you will support.

Education and community outreach are important aspects of the Nebraska Chamber Players' mission. We believe in bringing music and learning to students of all ages!

We distribute Red Dot Cards through the schools and private music teachers (or by request to anyone who asks), offering $5 admission for a student and a guest to any NCP concert. It's an opportunity for young people to attend a concert with a parent or friend (or a cheap date for aspiring high school or college musicians).

Music in Your Space™ takes NCP musicians into elementary school classrooms, where we demonstrate how to be a positive member of a group (using music an an example). Students are introduced to methods of decision-making as well as music as a vocation.

Musically Speaking, a partnership with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), provides a variety of interesting experiences in chamber music. This year's offerings will include a musical and sightseeing trip to Kearney, "Control Your Nerves" (a presentation by Clark Potter), "Classical Music at the Movies" (by Jeff Campbell), plus everything you always wanted to know about the White Pelican (and why this is relevant to music and Nebraska).

New Music: Pelican Landings by Joe Holmquist

Ashfall is complete, the CD is pressed, and we are grateful to all who supported that wonderful project! (A CD release party is scheduled to coincide with Give to Lincoln Day on May 16, so watch your email for further details in the coming days.)

Inspired by the success and public support for Ashfall, we are excited to produce another Nebraska-related work, this one commemorating the annual pelican migration to Harlan County Reservoir. The arrival of these massive birds, silent, majestic and in the thousands, is a sight to behold. Standing on the bluffs around the lake in the last days of winter, seeing the pelicans circle and dive or kettle in the air—it's another of Nebraska’s incredible natural wonders.

NCP percussionist Joe Holmquist has had a fascination with pelicans since his childhood in Minnesota. It was only natural for NCP to call upon his compositional talents to musically represent this Nebraska phenomenon. Joe's chamber music works (under the pen name Tristan Fuentes) have been a staple of our repertoire for many years, and we are thrilled to be collaborating with him on Pelican Landings. Watch for the premiere of this new work during the 2013-14 season!

Plan now to support Nebraska Chamber Players
on Give to Lincoln Day, May 16!
May 16 is also the official release date for our CD, Ashfall
watch your email in the next few days for
